Emirates plane catches fire in Dubai airport

Amateur video appears to show a thick cloud of black smoke coming out of a plane at Dubai International Airport, where an Emirates Airline flight from India caught fire.

DUBAI, UAE (AUGUST 3, 2016) (SOCIAL MEDIA WEBSITE) – An Emirates Airline flight from India caught fire after making an emergency landing at Dubai International Airport on Wednesday (August 3), authorities said.

All 300 passengers and crew escaped from the burning fuselage.

Video purportedly of the incident showed a thick plume of black smoke rising from the burning plane.

Operator Dubai Airports said all arrivals and departures at Dubai International had been suspended until further notice.

The plane involved was a Boeing 777-300, delivered to the airline in 2003. The flight, EK521, was coming from Thiruvananthapuram.

Emirates Airline initially said there had been a total of 275 passengers and crew aboard the plane, but later updated that number to 282 passengers and 18 crew.
