Mercedes-Benz wins World Car of the Year with its C-Class. Mercedes-Benz also wins World Luxury Car with its S-Class Coupe and World Performance Car with its AMG GT.
NEW YORK, NEW YORK, UNITED STATES (APRIL 2, 2015) (REUTERS) – Mercedes-Benz was awarded the 2015 World Car of the Year for its C-Class on Thursday (April 2). Mercedes-Benz also won World Luxury Car with its S-Class Coupe and World Performance Car with its AMG GT.
The awards were announced at the New York International Auto Show.
For the World Car of the Year, jurors chose the C-Class over the finalists Ford Mustang and Volkswagen Passat. 24 vehicles from all over the world had originally entered the category for competition.
“World Car of the Year is as good as it gets. It’s the most prestigious title you can win with an automobile. And we won it for the C-Class. The C-Class is an absolute winner worldwide. It’s a global success for Mercedes-Benz. It’s a car that has a lot of features on board that you usually find in higher segments,” said Christoph Horn, the Director of Global Communications for Mercedes-Benz.
Mercedes-Benz also won 2015 World Luxury Car for its S-Class Coupe and 2015 World Performance Car for its AMG GT.
“This is an unheard of hat trick. It has never happened to a single brand. It shows pretty much that Mercedes-Benz is on a roll right now,” added Horn.
This is the second year in a row that Mercedes-Benz has won the World Luxury Car title.
Rival German automaker BMW won the 2015 World Green Car award for its BMW i8. BMW Group also won the World Green Car title in 2014.
Citroen’s C4 Cactus was awarded the 2015 World Car Design of the Year.
