Anne Hathaway gets star-struck at seeing Mariah Carey on “The Intern” red carpet.
NEW YORK, NEW YORK, UNITED STATES (SEPTEMBER 21, 2015) (REUTERS) – Oscar winners Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway hit the red carpet in advance of “The Intern” premiere at the Ziegfeld Theater in New York on Monday (September 21).
Grammy Award winner Mariah Carey posed for photos as well, with Hathaway “freaking out” at the singer’s appearance.
“She’s here, she’s at my movie premiere,” she said.
“I mean it’s Bob’s movie premiere more than mine. I’m freaking out. She’s now an arm’s-length away. No, no, no, it’s fine, it’s fine, I’m going to meet her when the time is right.”
In “The Intern,” De Niro stars as Ben Whittaker, a 70-year-old widower who has discovered that retirement isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Seizing an opportunity to get back in the game, he becomes a senior intern at an online fashion site, founded and run by Jules Ostin (Hathaway).
“The more I got to know her the more I loved her,” Hathaway said, on her character.
“I mean she’s just trying so hard to be a good person and do right by everyone and I love that Nancy wrote a female boss character who wasn’t mean and cold and who was just being a person and figuring stuff out.”
Hathaway’s co-star Anders Holm, who plays her husband in the film, joked that kissing her was “satisfactory.”
“It’s the best day of her life,” he said.
“You know what I mean? She’s still reeling. I heard she flew here on her own arms, just a cloud that she’s still riding high on. Decent, pretty good, you know. I don’t know how to like, not offend her and make it weird, but like, it was satisfactory, it was great.”
Director, writer and co-producer of the film Nancy Meyers said she hoped “The Intern” would clear up some of the misconceptions of the older generation in the workforce.
“We all dismiss each other a little too easily, you know? We kind of blow off the millennials, they blow off us, and here they really have a good experience with each other,” she said.
“The Intern” hits U.S. theaters on Friday (September 25).
