“Thor” to hammer out competition again at box office

(WALT DISNEY PICTURES/MARVEL STUDIOS – “Thor: Ragnarok” is expected to smash the competition at the North American weekend box office from Friday (November 10) through Sunday (November 12). The film, which has already grossed more than 496 million dollars worldwide, is expected to take in an additional 57 million this weekend.

That will far outweigh the two films opening in wide release. The first, “Murder on the Orient Express,” follows 13 passengers stranded on a train while a murder investigation unfolds. The movie features an all-star cast, including: Johnny Depp, Judi Dench, Daisy Ridley, and Michelle Pfeiffer. It’s predicted to take in 26 million dollars during its debut, according to studio estimates published by BoxOfficePro.

The second new film opening this weekend will be “Daddy’s Home 2.” Starring Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell, the sequel follows a pair of dads and granddads who are determined to have the perfect Christmas. It’s expected to earn roughly 22 million dollars.

Holding over from previous weeks, “A Bad Moms Christmas” should see another 9 million dollars added to its international earnings of 31 million; and “Jigsaw” is expected to add 3 million to its global haul of 60 million dollars.
