Apple TV\u2019s wildly successful comedy, Ted Lasso, has returned for a third series. The show\u2019s well-meaning, if bumbling, American coach of fictional English football team AFC Richmond<\/a> is known for his motivational speeches. Take this example from the first series:<\/p>\n

Y’all played a heck of a game out there. We may not have won, but y’all definitely succeeded \u2026 I want you to be grateful that you\u2019re going through this sad moment with all these other folks. Because I promise you, there is something worse out there than being sad, and that is being alone and being sad. Ain\u2019t nobody in this room alone.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Lasso is a good manager \u2013 and an inspirational one \u2013 who always puts his team\u2019s needs first. He can be too optimistic and ambitious at times, but he\u2019s generally very supportive of those around him. <\/p>\n

An inspirational leader<\/a> motivates others, develops talent and offers opportunities for growth. They are passionate and willing to take risks if it means unlocking their team\u2019s untapped potential. The intent is not to put people under too much stress or pressure, but to push them out of their comfort zone.<\/p>\n

However, inspiring others is not an easy task. You must first earn their trust and respect, make them feel appreciated, and promote a sense of togetherness. <\/p>\n

This means giving your team a strong shared purpose so they can support each other, learn from one another, and resolve conflicts quickly. For Lasso, these qualities come naturally \u2013 which is a big part of why his players get along so well.<\/p>\n
