Capitol Records released it as a single from Private Dancer in May 1984 and became Turner’s biggest-selling single.<\/span><\/p>\n

The song is about a woman who is leaving her abusive husband. The lyrics are empowering and defiant, and the song’s message of independence resonated with many listeners. “What’s Love Got to Do with It” won three Grammy Awards in 1985, including Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. It was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song.<\/p>\n
