USA’s Thrasher wins first Rio gold

A teenaged U.S. shooter wins the first gold of the Rio Olympics.

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL (AUGUST 6, 2016) (REUTERS) – U.S. shooter Virginia Thrasher, aged 19, won the first gold medal of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games on Saturday (August 6), holding her nerve to clinch the women’s 10m air rifle event.

Thrasher edged out China’s Du Li with an Olympic record score of 208; Yi Siling of China was third.
