Mpelembe Network expresses condolences following the death of the Chairman of The Kenneth Kaunda Africa Centre for Democracy and Human Rights Captain Kambarage Kaunda

We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Captain Kambarage Kaunda, Chairman of the The Kenneth Kaunda Africa Centre for Democracy and Human Rights.

Captain Kambarage Kaunda was a dedicated humantarian, a passionate fighter for democracy and human rights. He worked tirelessly for a more united and socially conscious Africa with citizens at its centre. His kindness and humility will be sorely missed.

“I am grieving Captain Kambarage Kaunda’s passing. Africa has lost a leader and a tireless defender of African values,” said Mpelembe Network Chief Community officer Sam Mbale

We wish to send heartfelt condolences to Captain Kambarage Kaunda’s family and to his friends and colleagues, and lifting prayers in his honour.

Zambian opposition leader’s lawyers ask court to throw out treason case

Zambian opposition leader, Hichilema Hakainde appeared before court to face charges of plotting to overthrow the government. Hichilema was arrested last week in a police raid on his home, raising political tension in a country that has traditionally been relatively stable. Hichilema’s supporters are threatening to go to the streets if he is not released soon.

Zambia denies detained opposition leader barred access to lawyers

LUSAKA, April 13 (Reuters) – Zambian police denied on Thursday that opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema had been refused access to his lawyers and family since his arrest this week but his attorney insisted this was the case in an intensifying political crisis.
