(NOBEL MEDIA) – Their years of hard work and contributions to society recognized in a royal ceremony in Sweden.
Winners of this years’ Nobel Prize for physics, chemistry, medicine, literature and economic sciences were handed their official prizes at the Royal palace in Stockholm on Saturday.
This year’s winners include scientists who made discoveries in the properties of ultra-thin materials, molecular machines that could one day fight cancer, molecules developed to perform specific tasks, and a groundbreaking study of the body’s “self-eating” cells that recycle themselves.
Literature laureate Bob Dylan didn’t make it to the ceremony. Rock singer Patti Smith accepted the prize on his behalf.
