Man drops handgun at movie theater, shoots woman in the shoulder

A 29-year-old man reportedly shot a woman by accident at a movie theater in Renton, Washington after dropping his weapon.

USA (Next Media) – A 29-year-old man reportedly shot a woman by accident at a movie theater in Renton, Washington after dropping his weapon.

Local news outlet KIRO 7 reported that the shooter stumbled in the theater and appeared to be under the influence. According to police, the shooter was fumbling with a handgun before he dropped it, causing it to go off, with the bullet striking a woman in front of him.

The 50-year-old woman was shot in the shoulder. However, the bullet missed her major arteries, KIRO 7 reported.

Police said the suspect initially left the scene right after the shooting took place, but the man’s father called 911 a shortly after to turn him in. The shooter later surrendered to police at his family’s home in Newcastle.

The suspect reportedly told detectives that the shooting was an accident that took place when he dropped his gun. The man added that he had been drinking before the shooting.
