CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, UNITED STATES (CBS / REUTERS / FACEBOOK) – Chicago police have arrested a 14-year-old boy in connection with the alleged gang rape of a teenage girl last month that was seen on Facebook Live.

The teen suspect, who has not been identified because of his age, has been charged with aggravated criminal assault and manufacturing and disseminating child pornography.

The mother of the victim went to police last month and showed them images of her daughter being assaulted by a group of five to six young men.

The video was viewed by dozens of people, but no one called authorities.

Police say the teenage victim has received online threats since the alleged assault. Authorities are working with the family to ensure the girl’s safety.

The alleged incident is among several in recent months in Chicago in which the social media site has played a role in broadcasting apparent crimes.
