A major police operation is launched following an attack, described by police as a “terrorist incident” outside Britain’s parliament, that has caused many casualties.
LONDON, ENGLAND, UNITED KINGDOM (MARCH 22, 2017) (REUTERS) – A major emergency services operation is underway after an assailant stabbed a policeman and was shot by police just outside Britain’s parliament building in London on Wednesday (March 22) in what police described as a “terrorist incident”.
Amid confusing scenes, it appeared the incident may have unfolded in several locations, including on the nearby Westminster bridge where eyewitnesses said a car had crashed into pedestrians.
British police said there had been an unspecified number of casualties including police officers in the incident.
The London Ambulance Service said it had treated at least 10 people on the bridge.
A Reuters photographer said he saw at least a dozen people injured on Westminster Bridge, next to parliament.
