Injured arrive at hospital after Istanbul blast

Ambulances carrying the injured arrive at a hospital after a suspected car bomb killed at least 13 people outside a football stadium in Istanbul.

(Reuters) – The injured arrived to an Istanbul hospital after a suspected car bomb detonated outside a soccer stadium and killed at least 13 people on Saturday.

Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said 20 people had been wounded, many of them police officers, and that initial indications were that a car bomb targeting a police bus was responsible.

Two witnesses told Reuters they had heard two blasts outside the Vodafone Arena, which lies on the edge of the Bosphorus in central Istanbul and is home to the Besiktas soccer team.

Turkey has been hit by a series of bombings in recent years.

In June, around 45 people were killed and hundreds wounded when three suspected Islamic State militants carried out a gun and bomb attack on Istanbul’s Ataturk airport.
