“Justice or Else” rally marks 20 years since Million Man March

(REUTERS) – United in their call to end racial and economic injustice, thousands of activists rallied with the Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, who led the first Million Man March 20 years ago.

Activists say this year’s “Justice or Else” rally is fueled by the Black Lives Matter movement, and is a call to end police brutality.

Farrakhan says the movement was reignited by the riots in Ferguson, Missouri last year in the wake of the shooting death of an unarmed black teen.

In 1995, Farrakhan led the Million Man March in Washington, which drew an estimated 800,000 and marked a significant moment for African-American political activism in the United States.
