Mexican drug lord ‘El Chapo’ escapes military raid

Mexico (Next Media) – Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, the fugitive drug kingpin, suffered injuries after he escaped the authorities’ attempt to recapture him in the mountains in western Mexico.

Mexican Marines launched the operation after U.S. drug agents intercepted cell phone signals suggesting Guzman was hiding at a ranch near Cosala in the Sierra Madres mountains, NBC News reported.

The Marines raided the ranch in helicopters but were reportedly attacked by Guzman’s accomplices. They later entered Guzman’s hideout on foot but only to discover cell phones, medication and two-way radios. Guzman and his accomplices reportedly fled on ATVs. During his escape, Guzman suffered injuries to “one leg and his face”, NBC News reported.

Guzman escaped from a maximum-security prison through an elaborate tunnel beneath a shower stall in his cell in July.
