U.S. President-elect Donald Trump tells a crowd chanting, “lock her up” that “we don’t care” about prosecuting Hillary Clinton, now that the election is over.
(RESTRICTED POOL) – U.S. President-elect Donald Trump told supporters in Grand Rapids, Michigan that there’s no longer any need to prosecute his Democratic challenger, Hillary Clinton.
Trump stopped in Grand Rapids to thank traditionally-Democratic Michigan voters for giving him the state’s 16 electoral votes in the U.S. presidential election.
During the campaign, Trump had frequently accused Clinton of endangering U.S. national security by using a private email server when she was secretary of state, and said she should be jailed for her actions.
But when supporters Friday began calling for Clinton’s prosecution, Trump dismissed the idea.
He told the group, “That plays great before the election, now we don’t care.”
The FBI investigated Clinton and called her actions “extremely careless,” but said they would not be filing criminal charges against her.
