Truck ploughs into crowd at Berlin Christmas market

At least nine are dead and 50 injured in what authorities say appears to be an attack on a Christmas market in Berlin. Matthew Larotonda reports.

At least nine dead and 50 injured when this truck ploughed into a crowded Christmas market in Berlin.

Authorities say the crash appears to be deliberate.

The suspected driver’s been arrested.

A second co-driver died in the crash, according to police.

It took place outside the ruins of the Kaiser Wilhelm memorial church, a World War Two memorial.

In the evening, when the outdoor market nearby would be at the height of shopping times.

Police telling Berliners to stay indoors.

The incident evoking memories of the July attack in France when a man drove a 19-ton truck into revelers on Bastille day, killing scores. It was claimed by Islamic State.
