Thousands attend annual Memorial Day Concert in Washington to remember those who died while serving in the U.S. armed services.

WASHINGTON, D.C., UNITED STATES (MAY 24, 2015) (NATIONAL MEMORIAL DAY CONCERT/PBS) – Thousands gathered on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol on Sunday (May 24) to attend the Annual Memorial Day concert to honor American servicemen and woman who died during their service.

Patriotic music and personal tributes were part of the annual tradition. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Martin Dempsey paid tribute to those who have given the ultimate sacrifice.

“Throughout our history America’s sons and daughters have willingly laid down their lives to strengthen our nation and preserve its freedoms. Indeed, the greatest of this republic is founded in their selfless service” Dempsey said.

Nearby the concert site, a bomb squad detonated a suspicious device found in a vehicle near the U.S. Capitol.

The investigation was promptly concluded without interrupting the concert.
