Where is lukwesa burak?

April 27, 2023 /Media/ — Lukwesa Burak is a Zambian-born British journalist and news presenter who is known for her work on the BBC. She is the main presenter of Inside Out East Midlands, and has also presented on BBC News, BBC World News, and BBC Radio Leicester.

Burak was born in Lusaka, Zambia, in 1974. She moved to the UK with her family when she was 10 years old. She studied English and History at the University of Nottingham, and then went on to work as a journalist for a number of newspapers and magazines.

April 26, 2023 /World/ – The Croatia-Zambia adoption scandal is a complex case with many unanswered questions. The four Croatian couples involved in the case had been in the process of adopting children from Zambia for several years. They had all been approved by the Croatian government and had received all of the necessary paperwork. However, when they arrived in Zambia to pick up the children, they were arrested on suspicion of child trafficking.

The deregistration of the Patriotic Front (PF) would be a serious blow to democracy in Zambia.

April 26, 2023 /Politics/ – The Patriotic Front (PF) is a political party in Zambia that was founded in 2001. The party has been in power since 2011, but lost the 2021 general election to the United Party for National Development (UPND).

In February 2023, the Registrar of Societies issued a formal warning to the PF for failing to update its office bearers’ credentials. The Registrar gave the PF a deadline of 14 days to comply with the law, or face deregistration. Continue reading

Chilekwa Mumba from Zambia awarded the 2023 Goldman Environmental Prize

April 26, 2023 /Environment/ — Chilekwa Mumba is an environmental activist from Zambia who was awarded the 2023 Goldman Environmental Prize for his work to hold the mining company Vedanta Resources accountable for the environmental damage it caused in Zambia.

Mumba started his activism in 2015, when he noticed that the Kafue River, which runs through his community, was becoming polluted. He investigated and found that the pollution was coming from the Konkola Copper Mines (KCM), a subsidiary of Vedanta Resources.

Oral sex is now the leading risk factor for throat cancer

Over the past two decades, there has been a rapid increase in throat cancer in the west, to the extent that some have called it an epidemic. This has been due to a large rise in a specific type of throat cancer called oropharyngeal cancer (the area of the tonsils and back of the throat). The main cause of this cancer is the human papillomavirus (HPV), which are also the main cause of cancer of the cervix. Oropharyngeal cancer has now become more common than cervical cancer in the US and the UK.
