What is Digital Marketing Act (DMA)?

It applies to large online platforms and search engines, including Google, that have been designated as “gatekeepers” due to their significant market power. 

Google has been actively working to comply with the DMA’s requirements. Some of the key changes they have implemented include:   

  • Search results: Google has made changes to how it displays search results, including introducing dedicated units and formats to boost the visibility of comparison shopping sites for products like flights, hotels, and general merchandise.   
  • Choice screens: Google has added choice screens to its Android devices, allowing users to easily switch their default search engine and browser.   
  • Interoperability: Google has made changes to its services to improve interoperability with other services and devices.  
  • Data access: Google has provided more transparency and control over user data.   

Google has also been working closely with the European Commission to ensure compliance with the DMA. They have made significant efforts to understand and implement the new regulations, and they continue to monitor the situation closely to make any necessary adjustments.   

However, Google’s efforts to comply with the DMA are a positive step towards creating a fairer and more competitive digital marketplace.
