Aug. 21, 2023 /Entertainment/ — Peter Kalumba Chishala (10 October 1957 – 15 June 1996), better known by his stage name P.K. Chishala, was a Zambian musician. He is considered by many to be one of the greatest musicians of the Kalindula genre. He contributed to the development and popularizing of the genre.

Chishala was born in Kitwe, Zambia, in 1957. He was blind from birth due to smallpox. He attended Mambilima Primary School for the Blind and Sefula Secondary School. After graduating from high school, he worked as a social worker at the Mindolo Ecumenical Foundation.

Chishala began his music career in the early 1980s. He formed his own band, The Great Pekachi Band, and released his debut album, “Icisosa Cipamano”, in 1984. The album was a success, and Chishala quickly became one of the most popular musicians in Zambia.

Chishala’s music was known for its social commentary. He often sang about the challenges faced by ordinary people, such as poverty, corruption, and unemployment. His songs were popular with the Zambian people, and he became known as a “voice of the people”.

Chishala released a total of 10 albums during his career. He died in 1996 at the age of 38 from kidney failure. He is still considered one of the greatest Zambian musicians of all time.
