OPINION: Meta and hate speech in India

Deborah Brown and Jayshree Bajoria are senior researchers at Human Rights Watch

Last week, Meta, formerly Facebook, released its first human rights report, which included some snippets from the pending Human Rights Impact Assessment on India. But this was not a preview of the full assessment. Rather, Meta told Human Rights Watch that it does not “have plans to publish anything further on the India HRIA,” an abdication of its commitment to transparency and due diligence.

Winston & Strawn Offers Travel Reimbursement for Out-of-State Abortion Services

Winston & Strawn LLP announced that the Firm will reimburse travel expenses for personnel who have to travel out-of-state to obtain an abortion.

The Firm initiated this policy following the recent Supreme Court decision that overturned Roe v. Wade. As a result of that decision, the right to an abortion is now determined under state law. Continue reading

Workers’ rights: how a landmark UN decision on safety and health will actually affect employees

In what has been called the “biggest moment for workers’ rights in a quarter of a century”, the International Labour Organization (ILO) adopted a safe and healthy work environment as one of its five fundamental principles and rights at work for all at its June 2022 international conference. This is the first extension of workers’ human rights in almost 25 years and it means governments must now commit to respect and promote the right to a safe and healthy working environment.
