June 5, 2023 /Politics/ — Mike Pence is a former American politician who served as the 48th Vice President of the United States from 2017 to 2021 under President Donald Trump. A member of the Republican Party, he previously served as the 50th Governor of Indiana from 2013 to 2017 and as a member of the United States House of Representatives from Indiana’s 6th congressional district from 2001 to 2013.
Pence was born in Columbus, Indiana, and graduated from Hanover College and Indiana University Maurer School of Law. He was elected to the United States House of Representatives in 2000, and served as chairman of the House Republican Conference from 2009 to 2011. In 2012, Pence was elected Governor of Indiana. As governor, he signed into law a number of conservative policies, including a religious freedom law that was later revised due to concerns that it could be used to discriminate against LGBT people.
In 2016, Pence was selected by Donald Trump as his running mate for president. The Trump-Pence ticket won the election, and Pence was inaugurated as vice president on January 20, 2017. As vice president, Pence was a loyal supporter of Trump. He defended Trump’s policies and decisions, and he often served as Trump’s surrogate on the campaign trail.
On January 6, 2021, a mob of Trump supporters stormed the United States Capitol Building in an attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. Pence was presiding over the joint session of Congress that was counting the electoral votes, and he was pressured by Trump and his allies to overturn the results. Pence refused to do so, and he was evacuated from the Capitol Building as the mob entered.
Pence has not yet announced his candidacy for president in 2024. However, he is considered to be a potential contender for the Republican nomination. If he does run, Pence would likely face a challenge from Trump, who is also considering running for president again.
It is unclear whether Pence is running to challenge Trump as payback after the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol. However, it is possible that Pence believes that he can unite the Republican Party and defeat Trump in a primary election. Pence is a popular figure among many Republicans, and he could appeal to voters who are looking for a more traditional Republican candidate.
Only time will tell whether Pence will run for president in 2024. However, his decision to file paperwork to run is a sign that he is seriously considering a White House bid.
