The ‘gay world cup’: why LGBTQ+ audiences love Eurovision

In 1956, seven European countries – Belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Switzerland and West Germany – gathered in Lugano, Switzerland for the first ever Eurovision Song Contest. The competition was only broadcast in select countries, meaning only a small number of viewers watched Swiss entry Lys Assia win the grand prize with the song Refrain.

Black Jesus

There are a few movies about Jesus that have been made by black filmmakers. One of the most famous is “Color of the Cross” (2006), which tells the story of Jesus’s crucifixion from the perspective of a black man. The film was directed by Chris Stokes and stars Stephen Baldwin as Jesus. Another notable film is “Black Jesus” (2014-2015), a comedy series created by Aaron McGruder that imagines Jesus as a modern-day black man living in Compton, California. LL Cool J, an American rapper, actor, and television personality. He is best known for his hip hop music, which has sold over 30 million records worldwide. His biggest hit single is “I Need Love,” which reached number one on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart in 1988. He has also had success in acting, appearing in films such as “Independence Day,” “Scream 2,” and “The Last Dragon.” In 2002, he starred in the television series “NCIS: Los Angeles” as Special Agent Sam Hanna.

I kick ass and drink milk

The joke “I came here to drink milk and kick ass, and I’m just out of milk” was first said by the character Maurice Moss in the British TV show The IT Crowd.
