Thur, May 21 2026 /Mpelembe Media/ — The 2026 Global Health Emergency In May 2026, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the outbreak of the Orthoebolavirus bundibugyoense (Bundibugyo virus) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC). The epidemic, which originated in the Ituri Province of the DRC and expanded into Kampala, Uganda, has exposed significant vulnerabilities in international disease surveillance and containment.
