Digital Apprenticeships Launch to Bridge U.K. Tech Skills Gap

edX, a leading global online learning platform from 2U, Inc. (Nasdaq: TWOU), today announced an initiative with EdAid, the U.K.-based educational organization recently-appointed as a Flexi-Job Apprenticeship Agency, and Northwest Education and Training LTD (NWEAT), EdAid’s newly-acquired apprenticeship training provider, to offer digital apprenticeships in high-demand tech fields. Why universities should return to oral exams in the AI and ChatGPT era

Imagine the following scenario.

You are a student and enter a room or Zoom meeting. A panel of examiners who have read your essay or viewed your performance, are waiting inside.

You answer a series of questions as they probe your knowledge and skills. You leave. The examiners then consider the preliminary pre-oral exam grade and if an adjustment up or down is required.

You are called back to receive your final grade.

This type of oral assessment – or viva voce as it was known in Latin – is a tried and tested form of educational assessment.

African American Irish Diaspora Network and the Council on International Educational Exchange Create Scholarship for African Americans to Intern in Ireland

The African American Irish Diaspora Network (AAIDN) and the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) have partnered to launch the AAIDN/CIEE Intern Scholars in Ireland Program for African American college students. Nearly forty percent of African Americans have Irish ancestry, according to some researchers, and African Americans share many other cultural, historic and social justice affinities with Ireland. Beginning in 2023, the AAIDN/CIEE Intern Scholars in Ireland Program will provide a life-changing opportunity for Scholars to explore their heritage, provide international business experience, and polish tangible work skills that will aid them in their future career.
