From the earliest arrivals of what would become Preston’s “Windrush generation”, the status of the Caribbean diaspora was hotly contested in this post-industrial Lancashire town, as elsewhere. Discrimination and prejudice dogged the daily lives of people from the Caribbean who made their home here.
June 5, 2023 /Environment/ — The Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) ordered Mwembeshi Resources Limited to cease all mining and construction activities in Lower Zambezi National Park on May 31, 2023. The order was made after ZEMA found that the company had violated a number of environmental conditions pertaining to the Kangaluwi copper mine.
The Kangaluwi copper mine is a proposed open-pit mine located in Lower Zambezi National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The mine has been controversial since its inception, with environmental groups and local communities raising concerns about the potential impact of the mine on the environment and the local economy. May 30, 2023 /Politics/ — Catholic Bishop Alick Banda criticized President Hakainde Hichilema’s press briefing on May 19, 2023, for not addressing the issue of corruption in Zambia. The bishop said that the president’s focus on economic development was “a distraction” from the real problems facing the country. He also called on the president to be more transparent and accountable in his dealings with the public.
Banda’s criticism sparked a controversy, with some people supporting the bishop and others criticizing him. Some people argued that Banda was right to criticize the president, while others said that he was being disrespectful. Continue reading

Before they were Israeli, the Jewish community of Palestine – the Yishuv – had been Britain’s close junior partner. A dispute over Britain’s restrictions on Jewish immigration to Palestine began in 1939, but was set aside during the struggle to defeat Hitler.
Hampton Common Park is a popular spot for dog walkers and joggers. It is a large, open park with plenty of space for both dogs and people to run and play. The park is also home to a variety of trees and flowers, making it a beautiful place to take a walk. There are also several benches throughout the park where people can sit and relax. Continue reading
