Zambia’s foreign debt tragedy – what needs to happen to resolve the crisis

Three years after defaulting on its foreign debt, Zambia is still trying to reach agreement with all its creditors on how to manage this situation. This has left the southern African country in a state of development finance limbo. It is handicapped in raising the funds needed to generate jobs, build infrastructure, provide health, education and social services and deal with climate change. Its president, Hakainde Hichilema, has warned that the situation threatens to undermine its democracy.

Is the beef between Zambia and Zimbabwe caused by HH

 Aug. 31, 2023 /Politics/ — There is no known beef between Zambia and Zimbabwe election results. The two countries have a long history of cooperation and have jointly worked on a number of regional initiatives. In the 2002 Zimbabwean presidential election, the Zambian government refused to recognize the results, which were won by Robert Mugabe. Anglo American in Zambia Explained

However, they have both visited Zambia and have expressed an interest in the country. In March 2023, Kamala Harris visited Zambia as part of a tour of Africa. She met with President Hichilema and other officials to discuss issues of democracy, governance, and economic development. Hakainde Hichilema has also visited the United States on several occasions. Was Bishop Banda justified in criticizing President Hichilema.

May 30, 2023 /Politics/ — Catholic Bishop Alick Banda criticized President Hakainde Hichilema’s press briefing on May 19, 2023, for not addressing the issue of corruption in Zambia. The bishop said that the president’s focus on economic development was “a distraction” from the real problems facing the country. He also called on the president to be more transparent and accountable in his dealings with the public.
