Facial recognition: An ethical policing tool?

Facial recognition technology made headlines again last month as researchers at the University of Cambridge, UK said that the UK police’s use of the technology was unethical and potentially unlawful. The report from the Minderoo Centre for Technology and Democracy urged police to stop using live facial recognition (LFR) in public spaces and said trials by the Metropolitan Police and South Wales Police failed to meet the “minimum legal and ethical standards.” Continue reading

Opera becomes the first browser to add built-in TikTok


Opera (NASDAQ: OPRA) is adding a built-in TikTok feature to the sidebar of its desktop browser. The integration is a result of the surge in popularity of TikTok among internet users as well as a strong demand for this feature: according to Opera’s research, the vast majority of TikTok users aged 18 to 35 who participated in the survey would like to have the platform integrated into their browser. It is assumed that the scientist’s job is to decipher these mathematical relations: once understood, they can be translated into mathematical models.
