The European Union (EU) has fined Facebook parent Meta €1.2 billion ($1.3 billion)
May 22, 2023 /Business/ — The European Union (EU) has fined Facebook parent Meta $1.3 billion for transferring user data to the United States without adequate safeguards in place. The fine is the largest ever imposed by the EU for data protection violations.
The EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) requires companies to obtain consent from individuals before transferring their data outside of the EU. Meta argued that it had obtained consent from users, but the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) found that this consent was not valid. Continue reading

African architects challenge Venice exhibition to decolonise and start new conversations

Presented since 1979, the Venice Architecture Biennale (La Biennale di Venezia) is possibly the most influential architecture exhibition in the world. For the first time, this year’s edition is curated by an African architect, Lesley Lokko. She has ensured that a strong African presence is the central feature of the show. Indeed, the 2023 exhibition is part of an undeniable shift towards a more just representation in global architecture.

LG Electronics (LG OLED) announced today another breakthrough collaboration with Six N. Five (Ezequiel Pini b. 1985), an award-winning Argentinian designer and digital artist based in Barcelona. Over the last decade, Pini has increasingly explored how 3D tools and software can be used in his artistic practice to create imaginary, dreamlike worlds whose aesthetic is at once modernist, contemporary and, above all, elegant.
